He was put under a lot of pressure to take a plea bargain. He didn't because he wasn't guilty.

The DA should've asked that the case be dismissed.

Do you think Beatty baited or antagonized the undercover alcohol cop?
Do you think the cop properly identified himself as a police officer?
Do you think it was proper for the DA to pursue a conviction?
Answers to your questions:
  1. (a) - I agree with what the court said. (b) I'm not outraged.
  2. Yes
  3. Yes
  4. No - waste of time.
I commend Mr. Beatty for standing up for himself in court by refusing to take the plea if he didn't feel he was guilty. With that said, it was pretty stupid to be drinking out of a can in a NC ABC liquor store parking lot. It smells of a publicity stunt, which in this case, was pretty successful.

You should also answer these questions.

Neither you nor Contrarian knows why the cop was there. Contrarian speculates and you jump on the bandwagon, as usual, if it fits your agenda.

There are a lot of non-alcoholic beverages sold in cans. Are you saying that wherever someone is going to pop open one, they should first scan their surroundings to make sure no liquor stores are nearby?

Maybe you can be the star of the documentary about those who are so quick to give up their constitutional rights to anybody who comes down the street claiming to be a cop and making unlawful demands.
