In the late 70s, or early 80s, I was in Buffalo for a business meeting. The Falls were completely frozen over. I had one of my reps take me across the bridge for dinner and to see the falls.

Very strange. Almost quiet. The water was still flowing under the crust of ice.

Great experience, go see it if you can.

"The ice bridge is a regular occurrence during cold winters, but the falls itself is not freezing. When the falling water and chunks of ice hit the pool below and splash, the airborne water can freeze; over a period of time, these frozen particles begin to collect, and eventually form an ice bridge. Prior to 1912, tourists were allowed to walk on the ice bridge, and there is actually a photograph estimated to be from the 1890s that shows tourists on the bridge. On a day in 1912, tourists were walking on the ice bridge when it suddenly broke apart, sweeping three people down the river to their deaths. Since then, the bridge has remained off limits."

I think the photo they are referring to is the one I earlier posted. There seems to be varying info on the date taken, but no doubt the people in photo didn't know how much danger they were in.

From what I've seen this has given [insert agenda here] yet another opportunity to make drones seem like harmless toys rather than another tool of the surveillance state we're becoming...
