Most of them are in the U.K. They sacked the ancient statues and arts from Persia and Mesopotamia. Rick Steves had an episode where they toured Tehran's museum of history and they were all replicas.

The reports say that only a few were reproductions, the rest were originals. So, flip a coin, I guess.

I believe Egyptions of been trying to recover their lost/stolen artifacts for a few years now. It would suck if the Islamist took over the entire middle east and destroyed all the greatest pieces of art in history.

Destroying ancient statues is actually the least appalling thing they have done so far.

Saw this on the national news this morning. Isn't that wonderful (sarcasm). The Muslim spokesman in the broadcast said that ancient civilizations used to worship those statues instead of worshipping Allah. I guess that's probably one of the main reasons they are destroying them. Kind of reminds me what modern day atheists and the like are trying to do with symbols of Christianity in America and how they are trying to purge the public square of all religious symbols through their endless litigation. "Christians use these symbols to worship God instead of worshipping the goddess of reason".

Actually, the reports say that one was authentic. There may have been more real artifacts, but the rest appear to have been copies.

I'm Agnotic/Atheist and have no desire to remove elements of Christianity from US culture. It's part of the Heritage of the US and I'm fine with it as long as Christians don't interfere with my lack of faith.
