And a month or so ago, one of the "guest gadflies" on Katie Couric's afternoon kafffeklatsch made a prediction regarding the "self-driving cars" which have generated so much hype and enthusiasm -- mostly among the non-techies (an increasing proportion of which seem to be Millennial males). The latter at least has a couple of components emerging and undergoing further refinement, but to a certain portion of the public, the limitations of one "prediction" are as likely (or unlikely) as the other.
There has long been a gap between "science fantasy" and "hard science"; a few journalists first started to call attention to it when the Space Shuttle Challenger disintegrated nearly thirty years ago. But that gap seems to be widening, and apparently, the mainstream politicians of either party don't see it as their duty to explain hard truths and bring the children, some of whom are now in their forties, back to the real world. Obviously, the Politically Correct mindset which dominates the NEA has no interest in doing so either.
Up until a few years ago, the recognition that a portion of the public just can't grasp this disparity, and really doesn't care, was accepted by the "court of public opinion" as a fact of life in contemporary society. But I'm not sure what will happen if the more-knowledgeable, and thereby, better-respected plurality continues to diminish, and the anti-techies throw bigger and bigger tantrums every time the laws of nature, science and economics all prove them wrong; we seem to be "heading" (pun intended) for another Roman circus in the media.

Yep, good call. From the cult classic movie "Thing With Two Heads".
thought this was a great movie and I recall it being up for several Oscars including best actor but word was that Rosey and Ray split the vote and Marlon Brando won for his Godfather role instead in what was an obvious travesty.
"....so they transplanted the white head onto the black body. Who would have suspected that neither would have cared for the idea, too much?"
