My wife and kids are already in Vegas leaving Saturday for Zion. They get to do the spring break thing while i stay home and feed the pets.
i remember the last time your government shut itself down many if not all the national parks were shut down.
Living in Canada we only get or are interested in the USs major news stories. In this time of global terrorism it seems rather odd to be shutting down your homeland security..

What does DHS have to do with national parks? How do you even connect those two things in your mind?

As said i'm from Canada and have no idea whether the security at national parks is tied to homeland security, the last time your government shut down so did the national parks. As the families spring break is all about the parks i thought i would ask the question.

You'll be fine Jambo! One thing to keep in mind regarding travel-- as you are coming down from Canada the storm fronts are stacking up from eastern Utah coming through Colorado.. I live 400 miles northeast of the Grand Canyon and we are getting one wave after another of a rain/snow mix. It mostly is affecting Colorado's high country as the snow level will drop to 5500 ft.

Flagstaff will surely catch some snow out of this, keep in mind their elevation is 6800 ft. Was just through there Monday-no snow. These fronts will be done but not till Tuesday of next week. Temps in Zion I'm guessing will be in the 50's. Gas prices in my area are just a tad over $2 a gallon, Flagstaff is around $2.15.

Be safe!

So annoying when people use superlatives like this in politics. More divisive than, say, Nixon? Coolidge?

Jefferson was pretty divisive because people didn't want a non-Christian for a President. Washington was a Deist too, but he was seen going to a lot of churches and he had lead the war effort.

It's a good question but as has been said by others, there will be no problems at or near the parks. Everything in the news indicates the TSA at US airports will fully staffed. I have no idea how a DHS shutdown might affect border crossings.

Consider fitting Bryce Canyon into your itinerary. IMO it's as scenic as Zion and more accessible, less crowded. I've only ever visited both in the fall though so can't say what's open and not this time of year. Both Zion and Bryce are very seasonal parks and many restaurants/shops close down in the off season.

Were any posts deleted from this thread? Some seem to refer to one that doesn't seem to exist. But the post numbers seem to be in sequence. That's confusing.
