Perfect example...and a good intro discussing why this (humor/parodies) are done on such serious subjects:

I don't see where ISIS is the butt of the joke. Looks to me SNL was making fun of a stupid American father and daughter.

They're making fun of ISIS, not the friggin' victims, people. Seriously...

With that being said, I didn't find it funny.

Sure the ad makes fun of the stupid foreigners who go out to join so-called ISIS - along the line of the three British Muslim girls recently. But so-called ISIS's propensity to tool around in Japanese pick up trucks is also ridiculous. They purport to hate the 'infidel' world, but are dependent on what it produces.

What a shame...Dakota had such a promising career ahead of her and now she's going to be targeted by terrorists. Who's gonna play her character in the 50 Shades sequel?

I found it humorous, not just mocking ISIS but mocking several different things which is hard to do in one short skit.
One does not have to be so serious all of the time to take a whole situation seriously.
I'm not a huge fan of the "new" SNL (post John Belushi) but this one was well played...

I can see both sides of the argument in this case. First of all, it is pretty funny......the absurdity of him sending her off to fight with ISIS ! That part is worth a laugh. But I also see how people were offended because of how hated and vile ISIS is in reality and the horrendous, unspeakable things they are doing.

Humor and comedy are like that sometimes, though. We make fun of things that might offend others, and laugh at situations that are sensitive at times. SNL has always been edgy in that regard, finding humor in race, sex, religion, and a lot of other subjects that some might view as taboo.

TV and comedy can't please 100% of us all the time, and the day we start censoring it we become like other countries that limit what their citizens can say, do, and watch........and I don't think we want that to happen.

Undermining an enemy and stupid people who might support them through irreverence (because that enemy craves fear or respect) can be funny. It's called satire.
