This just disgusts me. Our son died when he was 19, and we willingly donated his organs as he had requested (although we could not donate his heart because it was too damaged from CPR efforts) because we thought that at least someone else could have a longer and better life, and that was a great comfort to us.
If we had later learned that one of his organs was subsequently wasted by reckless behavior, we would have been very sorrowful and very angry. It seems to me that donor recipients would be very grateful and would not risk "just throwing it away." (And, btw, race would have NOTHING to do with it! Plenty of Caucasian teens engage in reckless behavior, too.)
Come on! All transplant recipients have the potential to be bad people, or drink or smoke or do drugs when they would not be able to do so to be on the transplant list. That doesn't mean you deny a teenager from getting a life-saving procedure based on past behavior. A teenager!!
How many people's bad behavior caused the need for transplants? Smoking or drinking too much alcohol probably causes a lot of problems for people. I know someone who got a lung transplant from emphysema caused by smoking.
