If this florist writes out anything in regard to wedding arrangements, the laws appear to be different.
Otherwise, black performing artists should also face discrimination charges if they refuse to perform for a group/or one of its members, like the KKK - which wouldnt even be based on something constitutional like freedom of religion, but just pure common sense.
So you just compared gay people wanting equal treatment to the KKK?
Seriously?
Is this a contest for who can make the stupidest comparison?
Hitler was like a T-rex because they both had short arms and big mouths.
Actual response to your unintelligent attack on gay rights:
A black artist might (very reasonably) be concerned about being lynched when performing for the KKK. Is a florist concerned about being forcibly gay married while ringing up the flowers at the cash register?
Obviously people can't distinguish the fact that being gay IS NOT a religion. Example: If I own a store and I do not want gay, black, muslim, etc in my store it's my RIGHT to refuse service. I'm not hiring them so it's not discrimination. It's simply my belief and it may make me an A-hole but who so what? I don't have to explain anything to anyone..Move on to the next store..
Sorry I too believe religion cannot be used as an excuse to discriminate. What if she refused to supply flowers for a Jewish wedding next, would that be okay, too?
I work in a Catholic Diocese owned and run nursing home, and before this I worked in a United Methodist Home. Both places welcome Jews, Jehovah's Witness, Muslims, Aethiests, unmarried mothers, and yes, even gay people. Religious belief has nothing to do with basic human decency and following the laws of your country and state.
Would you be okay, OP,with an ER doctor refusing to save the life of a Jew or gay man because of his religious beliefs? If not, why should it not be okay for one profession but not another? Can you see the slippery slope that would be created it we start going down this road?
You are arguing apples and oranges. There are NO religious obligations regarding people of other faiths. On the other hand, ALL recognized WORLD RELIGIONS follow the same word of God that clearly states that homosexuality is an abomination and a sin. Only MAN has changed that fact to meet his earthly and hedonistic desires. The laws of God have not changed and the First Amendment is there to protect those of us who still uphold those Universal laws.

Except for the fact that it IS discrimination and illegal to boot, so...
They knew she served gay people. She thought her regular customer and 'maybe even a friend' would empathize with and respect her religious beliefs about ssm. Instead, they sue.
She was naïve, too honest to come up with a phony reason not to serve the wedding and underestimated the importance of the guy's gay identity.
Nonsense.
These people were a couple long before they decided to, or more to the point, were able to, get married.
Why was she not bothered by their fornicating or living in sin?
For years she takes their money and on what should have been a happy occasion for them, someone they thought respected them as customers, and perhaps, as people, decides that they don't deserve their happiness.
It was spiteful, nasty behavior.

You act like a Biblical scholar. Where in the New Testament is all of this damnation for divorced folk?
Matthew 19:1-9 (NIV)
1 When Jesus had finished saying these things, he left Galilee and went into the region of Judea to the other side of the Jordan. 2 Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.
3 Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”
4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’[a] 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’[b]? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
7 “Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?”
8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”
ALL recognized WORLD RELIGIONS follow the same word of God that clearly states that homosexuality is an abomination and a sin. Only MAN has changed that fact to meet his earthly and hedonistic desires. The laws of God have not changed and the First Amendment is there to protect those of us who still uphold those Universal laws.
"The relationship between religion and homosexuality can vary greatly across time and place, within and between different religions and denominations...
However, some adherents of many religions view the two sexual orientations positively, and some religious denominations may bless same-sex marriages and support LGBT rights, and the amount of those that do are continuously increasing around the world as much of the developed world enacts laws supporting LGBT rights."
Those of you who "still uphold those Universal laws" always seemed stunned to discover that others have a different view of the Laws of God.
