Non-citizens in New York City could soon be given the right to vote | US news | The Guardian

Quote:
The left-leaning New York City council is currently drafting legislation that would allow all legal residents, regardless of citizenship, the right to vote in city elections. If the measure passes into law, it would mark a major victory for a voting rights campaign that seeks to enfranchise non-citizen voters in local elections across the country. A few towns already permit non-citizen residents to vote locally, but New York City would be by far the largest jurisdiction to do so.
Democrats are going to continue to push until the rest of the country, including traditional Democratic bases, finally say enough is enough and push back.

What's the harm, some may ask, in allowing non-citizen legal residents to vote in elections? The problem is that, apart from arguments in favor of citizen-only voting generally, the argument(s) being pushed to support such measures (namely that non-citizen legal residents contribute billions of dollars to the economy and should have a greater "voice" in politics) applies to ALL non-citizens, including illegal immigrants. Before you know it, there will be no real benefit to citizenship as leftists continue on their destructive track. Seriously, one should not think that, given the Left's encouragement, whether implicit or explicit, to people entering this country illegally, liberals are going to stop here.

This is a power grab by the local Democratic party -- they already are dominant and think doing this will make them even more so.

Be careful what you wish for though -- if the non-citizen residents start voting in large numbers they will eventually push their own people in over the current political class - politics is unfortunately tribal in NYC, it's a shortsighted move.

Agreed. This should be a case study of "be careful what you wish for."

In another way, Blacks will reap less and less because other groups that supplant them in voice/votes aren't about to worry about them nor do they feel any responsibility, in the slightest, to any of the plights Blacks claim.

So far, the big push is have whites acknowledge and then do something about history when it comes to Blacks. Just how many Hispanics and others really care about that?

They don't.

The time is soon approaching when Blacks are talking about a minority (whites) owing them something when it will be others who control purse strings and whatever else Blacks seek. Then what?

But worry not because as long as Democrats keep promising that they are the party for the American Black, Blacks will sit around waiting for the check.

Maybe they think they can get someone named Hector Unimero Rodriguez Alehandro to sign the check? Good luck with that.

There's over 1 million legal immigrants in NYC. They certainly have a strong voting bloc should they decide to use it.

And I had to lol..the author of the bill has a district that is over 50% immigrant.

That's what I can't understand for the life of me. Blacks are the most dependable part of the Democratic base, often voting 95% plus for the Party. Yet, they have very little to show for it as Democrats know that, whether they bring about good results or not, they can rely on the black vote. Hence, though black unemployment continues to seriously outpace other demographics, among other disturbing trends (and, note, blacks often live in cities, if not states, overseen by other Democrats), they continue to vote Democratic. While Democrats are scrambling, trying to win over/maintain/increase their strength of the Hispanic vote, offering various benefits, etc., the black community has languished.

It makes no sense when you actually think about things (and this doesn't require difficult thinking).

When I ask other blacks (yes, I am black myself) why they continue to blindly vote Democratic, they say its because the Republican Party "is racist." Such an answer, apart from being ridiculous, ignores that blacks were giving the great majority of their vote to the Democratic Party even pre-Civil Rights Act (indeed, the GOP hasn't won the majority of the black vote since the New Deal, when we saw the decline of the black representative in Congress/state legislators), where a very large contingent of the Democratic Party was openly racist, sanctioning hate, etc. When you think about it, many black priorities, from education reform (and you often hear black "leaders" and others say that education "is the civil rights issue of our day" as blacks have been failed by school systems for decades, the overwhelming majority of these systems run and influenced by Democrats and their union cronies) to crime-fighting to gun right, etc., command significantly more support from black voters as ideas than their support for the Democratic Party shows.

The support of blacks for the Democratic Party is even more ridiculous in conservative Republican majority states, where voting Democrat ensures that black representatives stay on the outside in the State Legislature, not getting to have a true voice in drafting legislation and being resigned to getting poor committee assignments.

Note, I'm not claiming that blacks have to all become Republicans. Far from that. But continue voting for the status quo is completely ridiculous when blacks see the results that they do. Hell, they could even form their own Democratic version of the Tea Party to shake things up instead of going along to get along.

In 2012 Obama went to the Hispanics and promised them the world regarding amnesty, Dreamie legislation, etc.
Biden went to the NAACP meeting and told Black leaders that the GOP was going to put them back in chains.

The Dems can safely ignore the Blacks and just keep saying the the GOP is racist and be guaranteed their votes.

And the Blacks, as a group, are digging their own graves here as Hispanics take over that coveted "minority" spot and leave them in the dust.

I don't understand it either as blacks usually tend to have more conservative attitudes towards gay marriage and religion than a liberal attitude.

But the race card does work very well. There's also the old "Republicans are rich and only care about themselves and no one else" and "Republicans will take all forms of government aid" away card.

LBJ's War on Poverty has worked exactly as intended for the Democratic party.

It is funny how most liberal PC people don't realize birds of a feather will flock together. So if white people were to vote for white candidates because of race, the liberals would be the first to proclaim racism. Yet when minorities get large enough numbers, they almost always vote for someone of their own race. But the whites who would scream racism against their own race, don't utter a peep when other races do it.
In some cases it might be their own self loathing or guilt. Many are also brainwashed with PC from the education system, social media, Hollywood, etc. In other cases they want to see everything traditional in this country destroyed, and having white people in power is just one of many things they wish to se an end to.

And while they claim these illegal aliens will only be allowed to vote in local elections, IMO they won't be stopped from voting in state and national elections as well. Especially when its assumed that they will vote Democrat.
