Sharpton spoke passionately, though, as he praised the city leaders for promptly firing Patrolman 1st Class Michael T. Slager when the video surfaced and for announcing the officer’s arrest on a murder charge. That set North Charleston apart from places like New York City and Ferguson, Mo., where 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot and Eric Garner was choked to death by police officers who were not criminally faulted, Sharpton said.

“When he’s wrong ... we protest,” he said of mayors like Summey. “When he’s right, we should have the same courage to say he’s right.

WOW!!! I never thought I would see something like this come out of the mouths of people like Sharpton and Jackson.

Well, under the circumstances what else could he say? Doesn't seem to be much for him to complain about in this case. But give him credit, he did find a way to milk some publicity out of it.

I was positive that he would find something to raise hell about. Usually there is nothing that satisfies the ilk of Sharpton or Jackson. The victims family didn't want him there.

And then you have the black lives matter group leader (imported protestor - not from Chas) saying their going to start the "resistance phase" at midnight tonight because Mayor Summey didn't immediately kowtow to their demands. Of course, the fact that their demands was something Mayor Summey couldn't legally give them doesn't seem to matter. It's a bit disgusting to me how people are using this family's tragedy for political capital.

If Al Sharpton says anything at all, including that the sun rises in the east, I will assume that he's lying and is only out for his own aggrandizement.

Sharpton, no police chief/mayor would have responded any differently when presented with the video evidence in this case. Get a grip.

It should be frightening that this video evidence is what it takes to rein in police conduct. In the eyewitness video, a second officer is on scene within a minute of the shooting. But prior to the release of that video, the PD's press statements and released information are not neutral to the killer's story--they support it. It's a very different stance than you see when the killer is a civilian.

Police wield immense power in their daily interactions with citizens. If this is what it takes to rein in police conduct, then policing is broken.
