You are anti-capital punishment. Liberal?

Why do you suppose the death penalty sucessful if the state follows through with it? Public execution is a great deterrent. being sentenced to yeas in prison is supposed to be a deterrent and usually is for those who give a damn.

Too many see it as a status symbol and don't really care. Building roads or breaking rocks in the hot sun isn't what prison is all about now. It's hanging out wit your homies, watching TV, and doing anything but being productive. Who wouldn't want to hang out and chill with no real responsibiliies? All you need do is eat and that's about it. You have no taxes to worry about, no car/house payments. Your health insurance is taken care of as is your dental and eye care. The prison laundry washes your clothes. You may have to do some physical labor but it equals little to nothing.

Putting a gallows or guillotine in a sports arena and televising the executions live would be the ultimate reality TV show and people would soon realize the finality of what happens if in that position. The same would hold true if prisoners were to do hard labor and cameras followed them around to record that. D'yer think young thugs want to see people working hard and sweating for doing the stupid things they do on a regular basis?

You truly want to abolish the death penalty? What if one of your family members were murdered in brutal/heinous fashion? Is a life of guarded leisure what you wish for the convict?

That is terrible.

It reminds me of the Nazi Gas Vans that were first used on the disabled.

I do not believe in the death penalty for so many reasons. "Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord".

As a Christian, "Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone" says everything that I need to know.

Christians should be familiar with the fact that Jesus interfered with, and ended an execution.

It's important for capital punishment to be painless, because a lot of criminals want to commit suicide by committing capital crimes. It's a painless way to commit suicide and it gets them their day in the spotlight before they go. Letting it be painful would be un-American, because capital crimes are as American as apple pie.

In some countries, people getting executed get whipped very painfully, leaving permanent scars, before they have their heads cut off. We, as Americans, might tolerate treating our victims of capital murders that way, but we would never tolerate treating our murderers with such disrespect.

No one has a problem that more than 150 people have been exonerated from the death row just in the last 40 years, mostly thanks to the DNA evidence? Just think how many more have been put there wrongly but lack in clear and convincing evidence like DNA? We can't take back executions.

But that isn't the discussion. The discussion is regarding the METHOD of execution; not whether or not we SHOULD.

But it is, as mentioned in some of the posts above. If there is a thread about the beef-or-pork debate, you wouldn't be surprised at all to hear from vegetarians saying eat neither.

You must be a mod or something, please feel free to remove. Thank you.

Never thought killing someone was so difficult. It is almost comical to watch states struggle how to kill someone. Don’t drug users routinely die so quickly that the needle is still in their arms?

That was the method used in the early stages of the Holocaust before Eichmann noticed his gardener killing insects with Zyklon B. IIRC, death by carbon monoxide wasn't quite as peaceful as you may have been led to believe.

I don't believe death by OD is actually quick. More like the effects of such a heavy dose of drugs render the user unable to do anything to prevent it. Deaths by OD aren't exactly glamorous by any stretch of the imagination.

Low levels and high levels can possibly cause discomfort or pain, which probably wouldn't happen if higher levels are used. Even at high levels, if the person is in a small room it would still take time for the high levels to be effective. If they use a full head and neck mask, as mentioned in the link I provided for Nitrogen gas, while using high levels of CO (or even using Nitrogen gas) then death would probably be extremely fast and painless.

And it’s fast-acting. By the time you notice symptoms of poisoning, it’s often too late.

Low levels of CO poisoning are often mistaken for those of other common ailments, like ‘flu, and may include: headache, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, weakness and shortness of breath. You can strongly suspect CO poisoning if these symptoms improve when you go outside. With higher levels of poisoning, symptoms become more severe, and include worsening headaches, vomiting, fainting, confusion and impaired vision and hearing.
At very high levels, CO causes loss of consciousness, coma and eventually death.

a injection of 230grains of lead applied behind the ear at 900 feet per second injection speed will cure all criminal tendencies.
