The public is increasingly suspicious of the idea that as long as you claim a religious excuse, you get a special exemption from having to follow the anti-discrimination laws by which the rest of us abide.

One of the apparent side effects of the religious freedom controversies in Indiana and (to a lesser extent) Arkansas: More Americans now oppose such laws than before.
While a Pew Research Center poll conducted in September showed Americans were split on whether businesses with religious objections should be able to refuse service to a gay wedding (with 47 percent in favor), and a January AP-GfK poll showed a clear majority (57 percent) thought they should be able to, a new CNN/Opinion Research poll suggests increasing skepticism of religious freedom laws.
The new poll shows just 41 percent think businesses should be able to refuse service to gay weddings, while 57 percent disagree.
PRIVATE businesses should have the right to refuse service to anyone. It's not a good business practice, but if that's how you want to do business...have at it!
Remember Seinfeld and the "Soup Nazi"? No soup for you!
There should be nonreligious exemptions for businesses. They should either be required to serve everyone or they should be able to pick and choose who they serve for any reason. No more of this "it's illegal not to serve x person but not illegal to refuse service for Y person.
If the groups rallying and fighting for these exemptions were, say, black Muslims who didnt want to serve the white devil, or gays who didn't want to serve breeders, or third-wave feminists who didn't want to serve men, then most of the people supporting these measures would be throwing round the clock tantrums about them...

Better believe it! Every Holy Joe on the Christian network would be throwing a major hissy-fit the likes of which the U.S. ain't never seen!

If you're serving the public you're not a private business. You serve everyone. You want to be a private business organize as a club not open to the general public.

Exactly, it is amazing how many people do not understand the difference between a private and public business.
America is full of too many sheep who insist that government control everything, including our businesses. If any business owners want to lose money by not serving customers they don't like, good for them. That's what being free is all about...the freedom to diss and be dissed. What a bunch of whiny babies we have in our country. Grow a pair!
