The most surprising part though was I live in a extremely white conservative area.

Let me add this.
We lived in the vicinity area where the Garland cartoon debacle just happened.
In the 14 years that we lived in the area, the whole makeup of that community changed.
We saw more head coverings on women and burka shopping women at the local walmarts, SAMs, sprouts, targets etc,,,,
That area is now home to a huge 2.5 gazillion dollar Mosque which has a neighborhood complete with the towers which call the morning prayer. People are moving out of this area because of the changing demographics.
There is a public school where the majority of students and parents wear head coverings. That school used to be predominantly Asian/Indian. Not anymore.
So, to answer the op question...Yes we used to see this a lot in the last 3 years.
Now that we have moved from Texas to Georgia, I can count on one hand how many I've seen.
