Sure, his arrests would matter when he is in front of the judge. Seems to me his due process wasn't met since he never got in front of a judge.

Since his spine was 80% severed, his larynx crushed, doesn't police brutality mean a darn thing?

I have posted an article that Freddie Gray did not have neck surgery and he had a right to ride his bike without being profiled.

What did he do to be stopped in the first place. His attorney has stated, this knife he had on him was legal.
Yeah, exactly!

What did he do to have police hassling him to start with? Look suspicious? Run away? Ride a bike?

Sounds like he was just black in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The area where he was was a poor neighborhood. I heard on the news today it has the highest poverty rate and murder rate in Baltimore. He was a drug addict? The lawmakers who came up with the drug possession laws have basically ordered the police to go after people like him. It's their fault IMHO

I haven't read all the posts, so sorry if someone has mentioned this. I saw his arrest record on another website and so what? They were drug charges. What if the guy was a drug addict? Why in this day and age is being sick still a crime? It is my opinion:

1. That cops should not be forced to deal with or arrest people with mental illnesses like drug addiction. Spend the money on mental health and drug treatment pros instead.
2. Neither drug addiction nor possession should be crimes. Haven't we learned? Get these ppl help...not jail.
3. Drug addicts in Baltimore - many of them may have diseases (like AIDS etc) and when they are high or in withdrawal, they are also unpleasant. Some of them may also develop mental problems after years of drug abuse.

Some of them may spit on, bite or otherwise abuse the cops. Yeah that is crime. It is assault, but how much of this type if sh_t do we expect police men and women to take? Get some mental health professionals to deal with these people and let the cops go after murders and child molesters. They're being asked to do too much and the War on Drugs is a joke.

The highest murder rate is the relevant factor here. This is a dangerous neighborhood with dangerous people. On their best day, the cops have their hands full in this area.

I saw it too, and there were a couple of assault and burglary charges. At least one of the drug charges was intent to distribute, which is a different crime then possession or personal use, and intent to distribute is not something comparable to "he was just an addict." So, even eliminating the personal drug use/addiction charges and issues, you still have a rap sheet that includes violent criminal behavior, burglary, and drug distribution.

How do you propose to gain approval for involuntary commitment? That is what is required to make your proposal work.

As Baltimore’s destructive #BlackLivesMatter riots continue to rage, some new information has been revealed about the gentleman they’re burning Baltimore down for.

According to the Maryland Department of Justice, Freddie Gray had the 18 documented arrests below, at a minimum:
FREDDY GRAY
And you still think that man with at least 18 arrests and serious traumas who were running from police instead of sitting at home was not guilty?
Out of those 18 arrests, 17 of them were non-violent offenses.

Perhaps he needed rehab instead? Hmm? Genius

Amen. I've said it before. People are not interested in justice, they are interested in revenge which is why they support legislation that punishes addicts instead of helping them.

Absolutely! It would be cheaper and more effective to treat addicts and train them to work, but instead we punish them; arrest and jail them over and over. Why? Because it's big business. BILLIONS of dollars to huge corporations to keep poor people (of all races) in prison.

Well he could of signed up for rehab right? He could have entered one and tried to kick his habit of addiction. Oh no, he would rather use his money to buy drugs. You can't force someone to enter rehab.

Do you know how much rehab costs?

Do you know how much drugs cost per buy?

Do you expect addicts to magically stop using drugs and save up for rehab?

OK, now it falls on who to fix stupid? Why should I be concerned about someone who clearly has no regard for the law when there are so many deserving people who are honestly trying to succeed and need some help. Did you even look at his rap sheet?
