If someone is chasing you, you're probably going to run. Or turn and fight.
I've seen what cops can do, and how much they lie, and yes, steal, from people to know to never, ever, trust them. Cops SHOULD be the friend of law abiding citizens, they're only friends to themselves and their pockets.
If someone is chasing you then you are ALREADY RUNNING....
No matter how dangerous the job, there will always be plenty of people willing to be a policeman. Having authority draws a certain personality to the job. Why do people want to be Wardens or prison guards- many realize it's the only way they can play the big man.
Listen to the person in custody when asking for medical attention.
Don't use brutality if not necessary.
Don't shoot to kill if the threat is gone since the person you want is fleeing with their back towards you. That means to me, the threat no longer exists.
If one truly wants to make a difference as a public servant, it takes humanity, compassion and not allowing oneself to become callous, mentally burnt out. If one can't use self control and good judgment, maybe that thankless job is not for you (general you).
I think they start at around $50,000, retire at 50 with full pay and healthcare for life.
Not any department I know....
Around here officers get 1.8% to 2% per year for retirement. So, you would have to work 50 to 55 years to get full pay. Not only does mandatory retirement kick in before you can reach that point, but the entire state of Missouri has a 75% cap on pensions anyway.
"Healthcare for life" is a misnomer as it implies free healthcare for life. Yes, you can stay on the health insurance plan for life. But.... you have to pay the full current cost of the premiums (no employer contribution at all). Much better off using Medicare.
And lastly... starting pay $50k? Very few departments start at $50k. For many Missouri departments you cannot even reach $50k in your career without a promotion.
Not everywhere is New England. In fact, few states match New England.

No one should be. These people don't understand the concept of laws, property rights or civilization. Consequently, any attempt to enforce such advanced concepts in these areas will be met with cries of abuse and discrimination as well as violence.
The person deciding to become a police officer in an urban area is asking for trouble in signing up for a war that is not winnable.
Would you if you are a black Cop you are called an Uncle Tom and if you are white cop your automatically a racist. Who would sign up for that job lol.. you would need to be loco.
Could it be masochism? We've all heard of thankless jobs. Maybe this the prototype of them.
