Yet another killing associated with selling on Craigslist.

Body of Student Trying to Sell Car on Craigslist Found - ABC News

Quote:
Authorities in two states on Wednesday were investigating the slaying of a 19-year-old Illinois college student who went missing while trying to sell his sports car on Craigslist.

Taylor Clark's body was found Tuesday night near a truck driving school in the St. Louis suburb of Hazelwood, Missouri, not far from where his abandoned 2007 Nissan 350ZX was located, according to Tim Fagan, the deputy commander of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis and lead investigator.

I'm always very skeptical using Craigslist for these purposes. If I was having people meet me at my home to sell them valuable items, I'd only do so if I lived in a strong 2nd Amendment state Otherwise, we are going to meet in a very public place or I am going to make sure that I have a lot of that person's information before meeting; some of these sellers are meeting with potential buyers without even getting a cell phone number and talking to potential buyers to get a "feel" for things.

Note, even when using Craigslist to give out free items, as I have done in the past, I don't include my address in the ad as I've seen some sellers do; instead, I only give my address after getting a solid feel for them from conversing with them via email. I've had way too many wackos/unstable people email me (they were clearly unstable and got upset/sent weird replies after I asked basic things like "when could you pick up the item?" or "where are you coming from?" before giving out my address) to do otherwise.

But, RIP to the victim here. Slaughtered by an animal(s) while trying to do the right thing.

There have been over 80 murders connected to Craigslist meetings.
You have to be careful.

Last Craigslist sale I did I took my German Shepard with me as a deterrent and did the deal in a bank parking lot. Deal went off without a hitch.

Years ago, I had someone who wanted to come by the house when I wasn't there, so I left the item on my front porch under a seat cushion. He later sent me an email describing how he had gone all around the house and peered into each window. It was so creepy I called my husband and asked him to come home immediately. (And the item was still there under the seat cushion.)

Now I give away stuff by putting it out by the curb and posting the name of the street on CL. I never give out my address or answer emails.

Craigslist's logo should be a windowless van.
