Move into the home of family members or roommates, rent a sleeping room at the YMCA or other SRO situation are the most practical situations.

Of course there is always Section 8, where the individual can move into a New Jack City type of apartment house.

As to snap, I am not sure why you are taking it, even if you left off a number via a typo.

I have never taken a dime of assistance from the government, nor has any previous generation in my family. That includes during the great depression when my grandfather worked odds and end jobs to get the family through. He didn't turn to crime or the government.
It is not that we are so much proud about it, rather something we would be too ashamed to do.

When I applied for medicaid they told me I qualified for the minimum amount of snap which is $16. It is not a typo.

How do you think all the illegals who cross the border live?

Are people too good to have roommates or get a room for rent?

I think we can stand to up the min wage and stop promoting welfare as an answer. It's not the answer, paying at least a min wage that keeps up with inflation, nothing fancy, just enough to get off the dole. Or, should we just have a socialist government combine and divide so my tax dollars go further?
We have to do one or the other, we can't claim both. That's just a fantasy.
If businesses can't compete paying an adjusted min wage then they can't, pretending they can by throwing welfare into the picture is a fantasy we need to wake up from.

Not everyone has the intellect to be an accountant or a teacher. What does one do on minumum wage? Or is that no relevant?
Are you SERIOUS???

ROOMATES???? Renting a ROOM, not an apartment? All sorts of ways.

Are people really this clueless today? Please tell me they aren't.

Wow. That makes you so much better than this "moocher" family -- the Romneys.

Welfare Wasn't Always A Dirty Word In The Romney Family : It's All Politics : NPR

And let's be honest, by very definition if you're too ashamed to turn to government assistance, then you are too proud for welfare. I have always been able to support myself. But I'm not going to look down my nose at those who aren't. Most people take welfare for a limited time to get back on their feet. The "welfare queens" which people like you rail about are a drop in the bucket.

Welfare personally cost me less than $100 in taxes this year. Oil subsidies cost me more than $5,000. Corporate welfare is still welfare. And we scream about the "welfare queens" when they're pocket change compared to the real leeches.

Oil subsidies don't "Cost" you $5000 a year.

These are legal tax exemptions that every person or corporation gets.

Minimum wage is meant to be a starting wage and not a permanent wage. People can work their way up from that, add skills or education to ensure that they will make more in the future. Many people on minimum wage will qualify for Medicaid or at least health care subsidies, or be able to find care in sliding scale clinics. They may qualify for food stamps to pay for a portion of their food.
Nobody should have to work themselves to death in order to survive. Contrary to popular opinion in this country, we actually DO need downtime without being so overworked and too tired to enjoy it !

I paid in so that they didn't have to. You're not clear on what a subsidy means, are you?
