The next step could be in tractor-trailer semis. As a former trucker, that would be okay by me. Trucking companies would see lots of texting, eating, and other revealing behaviors.

Hmm....makes me wonder if you'd be as OK with it if your status as a trucker was not "former". I'm betting there's going to be a lot of footage of drivers and conductors picking their noses being recorded here.

Imagine what else would be picked up by the cameras. Especially at those overnight truck stops.

Yes, I'd be okay with it, even if I decide to drive again. Once a CDL holder, always a CDL holder. If nose-picking is the worst they see that would be alright. Think about it. Cameras would be on only while the truck is moving, not during down times and would focus on the driver seat, not the sleeper. Curtains close off the view to the sleeper anyway. For those who can't figure it out, the sleeper would not have cameras. Result is, just as with Amtrak, there would be a heck of a lot less guess work when something like the California bus crash with FedEx happens.
Basically it wasn't just by chance they decide to spent the money; I would think. Eventually if you drive crazy you will be seen on monitoring as we advance safety. It will help reduce death greater than any war.Right now they can review the drivers input but it after a fatal accident.
