Good god...

Florida Man Killed In Front Of Family After Road Rage

Quote:
Police say Doyle shot Gonzalez once, then paused, and then fired another shot. He then paused again, and then fired three more shots.

Gonzalez fell to the ground as he was heading back to his car. Preliminary autopsy results showed there were three entry wounds to Gonzalez's back.

Doyle then approached Gonzalez's vehicle with his gun drawn and pointed it at Gonzalez's wife, child and grandson, and ordered them out of the car and held them at gunpoint until police arrived.

I think they made the right call but Gonzales should not have gone to his house. Lawyer will argue self defense.

3 times in the back.... he's a coward.

It puzzles and pains me that a high number of people behave like wild animals who have zero respect for life. Forty years ago, instances like this were rare. WTH has happened along the way?

Forty years ago everybody and their mother wasn't carrying a piece armed with the mentality fostered by stand-your-ground and a freaking off the chart understanding of what imminent threat actually means. I would bring up another factor but I'm not going there for the moment.

Not a day goes by where, driving somewhere, someone does something I wish I could slap them goofy for. People are in a hurry. They are willing to risk death, in a high speed crash, to gain a car length. It seems, when folks have a specific destination in mind, seconds translate to hours, in arrival time. Then, there are the people who are so apprehensive behind the wheel, they can't get out of their own way, or they're texting, or otherwise stuck to their electronic leash, clueless about the traffic around them. We also have a LOT more traffic on the roads, and a lot more distracted drivers in that traffic. Mix it l up, out there, and driving is a chore, when it used to be a pleasure. A time to jnwind, after work, or to brace up before.

Now, folks are so far ahead, mentally, from being in the drivers seat, and all soon up about getting where their going, another driver being in "their space" can cause a.psychotic break. Its ;not a new problem, but, how people are reacting to issues has sure escalated.

There is nothing new about road rage shootings in Florida, they've been going on for years.

Forty years ago you didn't have internet to read the local news from all over the US, and the newspapers / TV news outside of Florida would probably either not mention this case at all, or make a short soundbite. And you definitely woudln't post this story online and discuss it with people all over the world.

Let's see... forty years makes 1975... US murder rate was 9.6 /100 K.

In 2013 - 4.5/100k.

In other words, the murder rate in the US today is less than half of what it was forty years ago. Less than half.

So, relax. This is a terrible story, but forty years ago there was more than twice as many of these terrible stories, you just didn't have tools to learn about most of them.

Let's not besmirch the reputation of wild animals. They are rarely involved in road rage incidents.

Oh please, 40 years ago you could take your gun to a range and not have to pack it away to do it. 40 years ago you could buy a gun and not worry the person next to you was going to freak out about it.

What changed? The people. Why is it so difficult to acknowledge that the people have changed. If making things illegal (the premise of your post) was the answer, then lets start with free speech so that the voices in people's heads telling them to do bad things go away. Countless lives will be saved.

Mental disorders, plus for some reason today, stress seems to be at an all time high.
