I'd have to assume the crime is using the internet to facilitate the sex. Sex with a 16 year old is not illegal in Indiana, though it would be in Florida, you'd think the Florida cops would be the investigators, not the feds.
Once things go on the internet, because everything on the internet basically crosses state lines, that gives the feds the entrance to the case.
Obviously if he videotaped himself with a 16 year old.. Then the Child Porn angle makes more sense.
