The argument on its face is ridiculous, cutting hours doesn't help the bottom line because if you cut hours you have to... drum roll... hire more workers! These stores don't run on their own, someone still has to work to unload the trucks, stock the shelfs and run the cash registers.

Yeah I mean, let's just give everyone a billion dollars!

Seriously, $30 an hour? In some places the minimum wage is still what, $7? 10? There's nowhere I between 7-30 that seems to mark more sense to you?

Walmart is one huge entity..sure..But then again they have profited for decades and all the while collecting welfare..because what they pay their employee's is so far below a living wage it's ridiculous!! I would also wonder about what benefit packages they even offer.or do what other Corporate folks do..keep hours low enough to deny any benefits!! It's disgusting...however at least in Canada..This Corporation can't and hasn't gotten away with that ever....They HAVE TO pay their portion of HC etc..and minimum wage varies from Province to province

In Ontario Walmart has been here for many decades..So absolutely have to abide by Canadian Standards and Regulations...Humm Why didn't they flee to the more free space south when bought and paid for Politicians could allow such hiring practices??? Because they are profiting!!

Anyway..Here's Canadian Minimum Wage and how Walmart works it throughout Provinces!!

Minimum Wage in Canada by Province

Exactly. Some of my 'cut your nose to spite your face' brethren seem to miss the fact that a significant part of their workforce is on welfare. By refusing to admit this, they then bash those on welfare. It's a vicious cycle.

Are you kidding? They just pile that work onto other employees. Same workload just less people.

This was so predictable and predicted. Happy now?
Great, longer lines for the holidays. Just remember to keep your feet moving while you are standing in line, so they don't stick to the dried urine on the floors.

Come on, its easy to work around that. You spread the work among existing workers. Surely you see how it would work. So easy. If you have 35 hours of work and the threshold to provide benefits is say 30 hours, you make each workers do an extra hour of work but not work more than 34 hours, not hire one worker to work 35 hours. Just an example but that is how it is done. You don't think all they do is hire more workers do you? Then, if the existing workers make a higher hourly wage, givw the work to the lower wage workers only. If you need to hire additional workers, okay, then they come in at the lowest wage, not the highest.

No different than anyone else. Somewhere, sometime they started with nothing. As usual, now that someone has something everyone else wants it. There is nothing stopping anyone from doing what they did. Wealth is created every day but not by sitting on your butt and holding out your hands.

Famous "mom&pops" (or what's left of them) are way worse than WalMart, as far as pay etc. is concerned. As bad asWalMart is, it is a solid top 5 of the mass retail in compensation, etc.. Many valuable WalMart employee (esp. single mothers) benefit greatly from WalMart wages that qualify them for public assistance and essentially free medical care, + 30hrs work week. They would hate guts of any dogooder who would force WalMart into 40hrs work week and $15/hr, extra $100/week is a pittance compared to the public windfall they get.

What law of nature says that MBA employee should be paid more than GED employee? Name an equation that is used to deduct individual contributions to the bottom line? There is none. Low compensation of GED workers tells that the GED workers can be forced to work nasty jobs for less. No sane and free GED person would work for 1/10,000 th of what MBA maverick makes rain or shine given a choice. People must be forced into those labor exchange rates.
