Not sure if it was on purpose, but you made a significant mistake here by using fatalities as a proxy for "attacks". Bullet proof vest usage has gone up dramatically in recent years while new trauma methods have quadrupled the survivability of head wounds (the most common type of fatal wound while wearing a bullet proof vest).
The LEOKA stats tell a different story than fatalities alone. The early 90s were the worst period in our history for attacks on law enforcement. Since that time, attacks have held steady at 55k to 60k assaults per year (though a greater proportion now are aggravated assaults) even as fatalities have decreased.
Where this will get interesting is when the 2014 and 2015 reports come out (there is a 2 year lag; the 2013 preliminary report was just released).
Feel free to browse the site I linked. It has all sorts of information regard officer statistics.
It also provides information on non-fatal assaults towards police officers among other facts, including those that do not involve any injuries. This should cover ALL types of attacks... even those affected by bullet proof vest usages:
There is also the fact that many times the videos that are being shown only show one side of the story. They are often cut and edited to show the police at the worst and showing the other person as a poor victim who did nothing wrong.
Kudos but it's way more fun for some people with their paranoid agenda to blow things way out of proportion and lump everyone into the one size fits all mentality. It's an incredibly narrow, sad way to live in my opinion. I think the Olive Garden should invite the police officer and the whole shift for a free meal. Guns and all. I would really love to hear why the hostess denied his entry. She's coming off as either incredibly stupid or a hater. Maybe I'm missing something? Her input would be interesting.
Again.. Facts completely disprove this whole "War on cops" propaganda. The past few years have had a DECREASE of attacks against police officers.
Yes.
The regressives constantly berate "liberal outrage". They too have outrage, just directed at different targets. Let's face it, outrage makes people feel good and self-justifies their own beliefs, whether accurate or not.

And you can't just look at "assaults," which covers all circumstances that a police officer is met with resistance. If you want to talk about a "war on police," what you really want to look at is ambush attacks--assaults outside the circumstances in which the officer has responded to some other criminal event that resulted in resistance.

Outrage sells. It used to be sex and violence, but today peddling outrage is a major market.
I have no problem with a uniformed officer having his gun on him. The question I would ask is how many hours did he actually work as compared to his assignment.
What gives you the right to question the cop? Are you his supervisor?
