simple logic question.
I wonder if the notion of women and children first still applies anymore

This lesson is inappriate for the grade level, appears to be incomplete, and from what I can tell does not even fall under the Florida middle grades state curriculum. This is one of those lessons that some teacher decided they would do because they thought it would be fun without really thinking about what objectives they were trying to teach and whether or not it even taught what they wanted it to.
Exactly. And my guess is that this activity is similar to one the teacher did in college, enjoyed it, and thought she would give to her young students.

Age appropriateness is something a lot of people, including some teachers and administrators, seem to be unable to comprehend. One year, when I was an assistant principal, we had a very talented young teacher who had selected a novel for the 7th grade class to read that included one chapter that involved a teenage girl being raped on a pool table. The softie principal at the time tried to gently persuade him out of choosing a book like that for the class to have to read and discuss, but he persisted. I told the principal that I'd have a different type of talk with him. So I went down to his room as said, very simply, "Ted, here's the way this going to go down. Require 12 year olds to read about a child being raped on a pool table and you will end up in front of the Board Of Education. In other words, teach that book...get fired! Is that clear to you?" He had a shocked look on his face, but said that yes it was quite clear. And I said, "Ted, what is it you like about that book?" He related that he liked the way the author developed the characters. "Okay, that's valid. But you're telling me there is no age-appropriate novel where an author doesn't develop the characters well?" The discussion went on for a while, and he relented. Last I heard, "Teddy" is some sort of self-proclaimed Evangelical minister who combines a school for children with homeless adults.

I don't think it would be up to me to choose.
It would be up to the group as a whole .
I think every one would have to prove their qualifications for remaining on board.
And if they were disqualified by ignorance, and or lacking survivals skills and practice, and or lied, they were thrown over board automatically by every one.
If the conveyance met a deserted island, these remaining would have to be capable of working and contributing their part to survive.
Those that depend on purely a supervisory position would be eliminated early.

Would be interesting to know who they would throw over......strange test. Didn't seem racist, seemed it was more of who they would save and let the rest die. Sounds very much like a leftist point of view.

It just looks to me like the kids picked people that they knew who they were. I don't think that is unreasonable. My family and friends go into the lifeboat before anyone else.

I might let the black man drown. Not because he is black, but because I don't know anything about him. For all I know, the doctor is also black, or East Indian, or American Eskimo. Race has nothing to do with it.

What I wouldn't particularly like would be if the teacher is a socialist progressive and using the exercise to teach my child her version of political correctness or even the nonsense that every person has exactly the same value.

My wife and I took this for the heck of it. We decided that we would be more interested in what the people could contribute to the mission of keeping us alive and safe than their color or gender. For the record one of us is white and one is non white. We agreed the we need to know more about the black guy, white guy and Hispanic woman. Obama has a level head has certainly known crises management. The cop has emergency training. The doctors know medicine and basic first aid. Justin Beeber sorry, Mr Bobo sorry, Now I was about to dump Trump when my wife said what if he handed you 10 mil on the spot to keep him on board....... humm This is indeed interesting and we didn't see it as racist just very challenging and a good team building exercise. Her example about Trump certainly showed that "curve balls" can stump judgement, or at least influence subjective answers.

Strange, but many would disagree with you here.

Parents are not capable of teaching outside of their own living......at least many on CD think this. IMO, people who claim this, are the ones guilty of not being able to teach their children how other cultures live and have values or no values.

From the looks of it, the women and children may have been first to go.......since most of the ships ONLY showed men coming out of them.

Seems to me only cute people will be left in this boat. I have to say cute people usually get through life being cute........I am not sure that is a real survival skill when SHTF.
