I think everyone gets that. Still, whether you have ever read one or not it is an American staple (no pun intended ) that I think no one wants to see decline.

Playboy was always more than your typical nudie magazine though. I mean, it was kind of a joke that you read it for the articles but also, yeah, you did. If back then if you just wanted softcore there were better sources than Playboy. Especially since the late '90s when you had the Internet and basically all the porno you could want even if you've got peculiar tastes that would never make it into a magazine a click away. Maxim has been catching up with Playboy without any nudity at all, although it's more juvenile than even Playboy is.

Are they starting to adapt to the digital age?

Who still buys them? I bet they are hurting...
I let my subscription expire a while back. Nude girls young enough to be my daughters wasn't for me. For a long time I wish they had models over 30.

I read plenty of their articles.

Reading a print on paper tactile object is better than staring a a computer screen, especially with all the 'net links to distract a person.

They are now going to be a smaller fish in bigger waters more full of magazines. They were a unique animal. Nudity with "class", of which only few nude magazines are making them pretty unique in the industry. If they believe they will gain readership by this move, I think they are mistaken. They've had a lot of beautiful eye candy over the years, letting imagination run wild instead of having full on sex pictures leaving nothing to the imagination. That's what made them so unique.
+1

I couldn't stomach that fake look myself.

Maxim changed their editorial policy a few months ago it looks like Esquire now. The single pictorial per issue may go away as their plan is to take on GQ.
