What is the point, then? Does that mean no more Play Boy Bunnies too? What a shame!
The bunnies are ancient history. They all went away when all the Playboy clubs closed over 20 years ago and the black 707 was sold.
Men did read the articles. After they checked out the centerfold first. But Playboy's heyday is long gone, along with all the sexual repression that ended in the late 60s. I seriously doubt it will ever be culturally relevant again, except as an artifact of earlier times. Every dog has its day, and so does every rabbit.
Playboy becme far to porny to ever make a good comeback. The real question is: will the Playboy channel ever drop it's nudity and soft porn? I don't think so.
They did have some interesting articles. I still recall somebody reading an article in PB about where a bunch of MIT students figured out a system/approach to win millions off casinos. I eventually read it in other articles. I didn't recall the month of the PB magazine where that person read that article, which info was passed to me, vs. the time I read it myself in another publication, but it does show there are some "Maxim-like" articles in there.
AFAIK, there weren't that many porn related articles other then what the bunnies and ladies liked. that would've been unique
My mother. I admit to reading "Cheers and Jeers" when I go visit her.
TV Guide still does this ?? Thats a flashback to 1984 for me !! LOL Today at the store I noticed that Tiger Beat is still around. Can't imagine that the average teenage girl of 2015 in this day and age of the internet would still be interested in buying a copy.
I understand, but Playboy over the years has turned into a niche market. There are still people out there who desire less than full-on. I think a move like this buries them in the pile with their competitors. You are correct in that print media is dying, but if you still have thoughts of continuing printing a magazine, I don't see how a move like this would make things better for them. Either tack on a more robust online version to go along with your magazine purchase (or something like that), or get rid of the print all together.
I have a CD with every centerfold from 1955 to 2010. I need to update. Why?... I don't know as playmates are not the best looking babes any longer. Most have fake boobs and fake blond hair.
I've had a subscription for decades; admittedly, I've probably got years of them, sitting around (or sat around since it is questionable how many of them survived the move) unopened, but that is probably due to that my life became so busy. Lots of magazines, from Playboy to Nat'l Geo to USNI Proceedings, have gone unread.
But now that Playboy is making this decision, I am not sure that I will renew the next time it comes up.
Once you've seen one woman nude, you pretty much want to see em all.
I would disagree with that.....but I suppose it does depend on how one sees nudity.
First of all, Jennie Ketcham (or was it Traci Lords? maybe it was both) said in her book that one of the hazards of nude magazine photography was shooting out the market. One may be in high demand for all the magazines, but unless they space their work out, they can suddenly find that no one wants to photograph them since all the magazines have already shown then. But otherwise.......
Let's consider Ashley Cox, Linda Rhys Vaughn, and Lorraine Michaels (sorry about the 70's-80's, but they are the ones I have actively in memory). One might look at Ashley and see an active country girl while see Linda as something sweet and innocent (being short does that) while Lorraine is energy temporarily tied down.....and that's just based off a few pictures.
So what makes them different from a "decent (as in morale)" just nude site on the Net. Two things at least. First of all, I get the impression these days that not many people bother much with the seduction of what clothing can do in its removal. Some here and there, yes, but not many.
Secondly and more importantly, what nude photography has to do is to communicate the state of innocence (or the robbing of it) of the model. This is what draws the viewer into the picture, be it the man to possess or the woman to remember. The photographer fails in almost all cases if he makes the model look like a pro.
Pictures on the Net, some do carry that message of innocence but perhaps so many don't.

The "Big Bunny' was a DC-9.

Hang on to those old copies. Their value will increase as collectibles even more.
Is Hugh Hefner dead or in a nursing home or what?
