Predictably, they blame drugs and alcohol, I bet none of the researchers immersed himself in the blue collar environment. Sober, drug free working class people dont fare much better healthwise, many (most actually) look like crap and have long list of illnesses as early as 40 y.o.. And all of that after they've outsourced many health taxing jobs.

Being a blue collar worker is a health risk on par with drugs and alcohol. Partially, it's unhealthy jobs they do, but, in my opinion, mushrooming status anxiety tops health hazards of the jobs. In short, working people know they are despised losers in this game of life destined to get scraps, and in the status centered society, there is nothing else to live for, so many just give up. Most amazing thing, social segregation is an American norm, so working and real middle class dont mix, but the working class disease is so advanced, blue collar people dont mix either, it is every man for himself locked in his home. Things were much different a few generations back, so geezers says, neighborhoods were actually alive, which helped to maintain sanity and taste for life.
