I have a feeling this guy is going to keep in contact with them.
He gave the oldest his phone number and said to call him anytime. He invited them to his wedding. He's also set up a GoFundMe page for the family. Initially, it was to raise $7,000 to transport their parents' bodies to FL for burial but it has greatly surpassed that amount which will be placed in a trust for the kids.

You can read the Trooper's story on the GoFundMe page.

Agreed. I think it's about 65% that are really good people, and 35% that are in the job for the wrong reasons with varying degrees of either ineptitude, laziness, or outright thuggery. I think the thugs are the ones that cause most of the problems.

This guy sounds outstanding. I'll bet his community is very proud.

Also, I'm sorry to hear about you losing a parent as a youngster. I lost my mom five years ago. I'm still messed up over it, and I'm a grown up. My sympathies to you and those children.

I'm just grateful that this cop and this grandma are there for them. I suspect that the friendship between him and the family may be a lifelong one, despite the distance.

This was such a sad and uplifting story at the same time. The trooper's actions, kindness and emotional intelligence were just amazing.

I saw him on the news last night, he said it was the longest night of his life, waiting for the grandmother to get there from Florida to tell the kids. I can't even imagine having to put on a happy face all that time, knowing what has happened to their lives. That cop went above and beyond, awesome!
