Incredible, I love how medical technology like these have been making progress and making people's lives better. Hopefully it will be more refined in the future to reduce things like needing tons of anti rejection drugs.

'Most extensive' face transplant in history - CNN.com

Quote:
A 41-year-old volunteer firefighter from Mississippi now lives with the face of a 26-year-old Brooklyn bike mechanic.

A plastic surgeon at the New York University Langone Medical Center performed the "most extensive" face transplant surgery in history, according to the hospital.

The news article I read stated that the donor's mother said her son had always wanted to be a firefighter....how ironic is that? David Rodebaugh's unselfish act of being an organ donor gave Patrick Hardison a new life.

What a heartwarming story and so happy for Patrick! If all goes well, he plans to be back home in Tennessee with his family for Thanksgiving!

The worth of face transplants, while doing nothing to prolong life or improve organ function, cannot even be measured when it comes to its psychological impact on the person receiving it.

It is stories like this that make me grateful for the life I have, no matter how disappointing I think it might be at times.

They really puts one's own troubles into perspective.

Thanks so much for sharing -- and best wishes to everyone involved!

A team of doctors toiled.. They studied they focused they sacrificed they committed to service
The same can be said of the patient.. The firefighter.. The same can be said of the donor..who gave all for his gift...The human

I see these qualities lacking from a segment of society today

I wish him success.. That the rejection drugs work and that he has some semblance of life

Great story, I read it from various sources over the last few days. I'm glad the firefighter is doing well; prayers for his continued recovery.
