The Bainbridge Island Review reports that Karen Keller, a kindergarten teacher at Blakely Elementary, is tackling the issue of gender equity by not allowing the boys in her class to play with Legos."

The stupidity of the PC Police never ceases to amaze me

The stupidity of the PC Police never ceases to amaze me
"I always tell the boys, 'You're going to have a turn' — and I'm like, 'Yeah, when hell freezes over' in my head," Keller told the Bainbridge Island Review. "I tell them, 'You'll have a turn' because I don't want them to feel bad."

What a ****! Let the kids play with whatever toys they want to play with.

What can you say about this stupidity? This kind of person is teaching our kids today in public schools. It is scary.

I have never seen Legos in a Kindergarten class anyway, and worked in a K-12 school district for 5 years. Most kids now barely play in preschool let alone Kindergarten, it's much more academic than play oriented now. This is one teacher people, not a district decision. All teachers decide what toys get played with in class because they buy them if there are any. Its not like they were issued Legos and this teacher won't let the kids use them.

It's not a gender issue legos are for both girls and boys walk down any toy aisle and you'll see rows of legos, it builds creativity and open ended learning. This teacher is so wrong.

I keep asking the same question every time one of these threads appears - why do so many people who clearly do not understand children, and don't even appear to like them very much, choose to make a career in education?

This woman should be digging ditches, not teaching children. Although, I would still feel bad for the ditches.

Nothing will happen to the teacher.

"Keller told the Review that her ban on Legos is a way to pursue gender equity. She noticed that boys in her class often gravitated toward the Legos. Girls, on the other hand, may not have felt as comfortable getting into them, and usually played with crayons or dolls. Keller hopes that by giving girls special access to the blocks, it will improve their spacial and math skills."

special access = gender equality. Ah, the new normal. It is ok. We males get even when we all hit puberty.

Oh yes Legos, one of my girl's favorite toys. Karen might want to talk to a shrink, something's amiss.

This is exactly the kind of teaching that causes so many people to say that public schools have gone to hell.
