it depends. a stove can last 20-30 years easily, and the older stoves, especially the gas ones, aren't the least bit complicated. I can easily imagine a 3 year old operating one.

What's disturbing is the fact that such young children knew how to do this and seemed semi-conscious of their actions.

It has less to do with them being three and other factors.

Read between the lines.

Euthanize the twins and sterilize the parents.

This is so f-ed up. But it could have happened even if a parent was at home sleeping on a different floor. R.I.P.

Um. What parent with a 3 year old and a 1 year old (coincidentally the same age as the kids I have) gets to sleep on another floor while the kids are awake?

On what planet?

None of them are complicated!
Appliances these days are super easy!
My son has been making coffee in the Keurig for us for over a year. (He gets his play table chair and carries it over to do kitchen chores at counter level.)
He can run the microwave just fine.
The stove buttons are five feet in the air (double oven), so there's no way he can reach, but he's pushed the buttons for me for fun before.

With babies running ipads, etc, all this can be accomplished at a very young age.
