Young people are notorious for going thru a phase when they discover their social conscience and some of them become totally possessed by whatever group or movement presents itself. Couple that with a natural desire on the part of some to emancipate and distinguish themselves from their parents, and the result is young people flocking to causes, some of which, like ISIS, only seem like a good idea from the outside.
Western culture is no more lacking in meaning than any other culture. It is up to each of us to find our meaning in the context of our lives, and that is not an easy task. Much easier to jump on the most popular bandwagon, or on the one most offensive to the parents' sensitivities. It takes much maturity to realize that the search for meaning can be a life-long process, and that the answer is often found in boring and familiar places right under our noses, where its sometimes hardest to see.

It's easy to make glib comments and dismiss it, but IMO it would behoove us to take this seriously, as it seems social media seduction of young people is their main recruitment method now, and it appears to be working extraordinarily well.

It would definitely be in our best interest to educate our young people and give them the knowledge and self-worth to reject this rot gut.
These women were radicalized in a Mosque, because they were practicing Muslims at the time.
Being a practicing Muslim doesn't mean they were radicalized in a mosque, do you have a source for that? Their parents, like most of these kids, had no idea either. They also don't seem to have been practicing Muslims in Vienna, at least they aren't wearing the garb and it certainly doesn't seem they behaved like Muslims are supposed to.

These girls played with fire and got burnt. Did they think this was some kind of movie or TV show where it would be cool to be part of the rebellious crowd?
If anyone is recruited by these people, get away from them. They do not care about you. They only want to use you. Report them if you are able.

It is a striking fact that ISIS appeals not only to young men, but also young European women, many hundreds of whom have gone to Syria and Iraq to marry Islamic State fighters. Sure, some of them, like at least one teenaged French Jewish girl who left for Syria, may have come to regret their decision. But that hardly alters the essential point: The girls sought out IS fighters because the West seems weak and unmanly and they pine for real men who are willing to kill and die for what they believe in.
Why? Europe’s got great health care, welfare, and lots of attractive young men and attractive women who, unlike the vast majority of women in the Middle East outside of Israel, are sexually available. So, why given a choice between a comfortable, if somewhat boring, life as a pharmacist in Hamburg, or fighting and dying in the desert, are thousands of Western Muslims opting for the latter?
Because, for all the awesome social services and consumer goods it can offer, Europe has become incapable of endowing the lives of its citizens, Muslim or not, with meaning. A generation of young European Muslims are giving up their relatively easy lives in Malmö, Marseilles, and Manchester for the battlefields of Syria and Iraq, because Europe is devoid of values worth living—or dying—for. They are leaving for the same reason that Europe’s Jews are moving to Israel: Strength and a sense of purpose can be found elsewhere, whether it’s ISIS, Vladimir Putin, Ali Khameni, or the IDF.

What Europe’s disaffected youth see is that the Western powers roll over and take it, again and again. The issue isn’t that we enjoy being humiliated. It’s just that we don’t really believe there’s anything worth fighting for. And that’s why thousands of Europe’s young Muslim men have taken sides against us—and why 15-year-old girls hold us in contempt.

A lot of women love a soldier, and a man in uniform. Even if they happen to be on the wrong side of popular beliefs in this world. ISIS and Al Qaeda are notoriously ruthless to women, and yet the attraction still remains.

They apparently married these ISIS thugs, and apparently were impregnated by them... and then one girl was hung out to dry on the battlefield, and the other was murdered.
Just shows how deranged these people are. Marriage means nothing. Pregnancy means nothing.
