And if the kid had been white, the black man would never have seen the outside of a jail cell again.
Equally as bad don't you think? But the kid wasn't white, he was black and you hear nothing about this. Is not the shooting of a black kid just as worthy of prosecution and public outrage as the shooting of a white kid? To be clear, it isn't the race of the kid that is important, it is the race of the shooter, that is what probably makes the difference.
On another note:
All that should be directed to the writers of the news article. It could have been written without mentioning race, the FACT that is was mentioned means it was of consequence and therefore a valid point of discussion.
Don't post a link to an article about a red car and then not expect or not appear to encourage others to comment about the color of the car. It is almost guaranteed that if you post about a red corvette, people who like corvettes will say something about not liking the red as they prefer blue or green or yellow. Post about a corvette sans color and the discussion will flow about the car only, color never being an issue.
To post an article that makes a point about the race of the subjects and then have others say it has nothing to do with race is rather disingenuous. Find another article that doesn't mention it, not too hard to do.
Race does have something to do with this topic, saying it doesn't is being naive.
It said three of them not one so that can change the landscape quickly if they confronted him.
Yes, that's true. Not enough info to come to a conclusion. Unless the other two are identified and interviewed, we will only get one side of the story.
They weren't just stealing from cars, and the car in question apparently wasn't parked on the street, they had to hop a gate to get at it:

'We saw the car inside the gate, we hopped the gate, Martinez was on the passenger side, and me and the other young man was on the driver`s side, and we were rambling through his car, so the man came out and must have seen us. He fired at us and we hopped the gate, but Martinez didn`t make it over the gate,' the cousin said.
He says the three of them had been staying at their young friend`s house Saturday night when they decided to go for a late night bike ride.
He says around midnight they got hungry and began rummaging through cars looking for change to buy snacks.
It`s a decision he says they made together, but that ultimately, he feels responsible.
'I was supposed to be the oldest,' he said. 'I was supposed to be the one to tell them to not go in the cars.'
I'm guessing those are two kids who won't be stealing from cars for a while.
If this happened more often, there'd be a lot fewer thieves and burglars around and we'd all be safer.
Not allowing people to protect their property just creates victims.
What always comes up is people saying no one deserves to be killed for stealing. Think about that, no one is saying anyone "deserves" to be killed for stealing, only that if you decide to steal, you are the one putting your life at risk. If you gamble and lose it, that is your own fault.
