Prosecutors called the boy's death a "a terrible tragedy" but said "Missouri law regarding a homeowner’s right to protect himself and his property is complicated."
Like many US states, Missouri's so-called castle doctrine allows for the use of lethal force without the "duty to retreat" if someone feels threatened. Such laws have been interpreted to also allow for the use of deadly force to defend property and have been used to attempt to justify shooting fleeing thieves, with varying degrees of success.
Black man kills black kid over stealing from an unlocked car. There will be no national media coverage, no marches, and no riots. If the shooter was white it would be the dominant nation-wide story for the next 6 months.
Another one of those threads where some want to gloat over someone getting killed over a version of castle doctrine ("take that, anti gun liberals!"), and others want to complain about double standards in the black community. Some things never change unfortunately.

Castle Doctrine laws are not a license too kill, you have the right to defend yourself anywhere at any time. What the Castle Doctrine does is prevent LE or a prosecutor from second guessing what actions you may have taken before that, specifically if you confront someone that is for example inside your house, on your property or stealing from your unlocked car. The use of deadly force still needs to be justified. In states without these laws the victim can be prosecuted for confronting someone. While that is rare the last thing a victim should be concerned about is whether or not they will be prosecuted because they confronted someone in their house.
Black man shoots and kills another black. No charges. Why the fuss? Since when does black on black violence become noteworthy?
Had the shooter been white, there would be riots already, calls for justice, demands for prosecution.
Instead, silence.
Lol, yet notice that the story still managed to slip in a "recap" of instances in which whites killed blacks. They can't help themselves.
