Whenever I have contractors at the house, I'll always check the doors and windows after they've gone to make sure that they are locked. Though I've never had any problems, I've heard stories about workers who have unlocked doors or windows during the day while they're working, then return at night to rob the place when they're not being watched by their coworkers.
Many use locking gun cabinets that are really easy to defeat.

I was watching "The First 48" last night. The suspect eventually plead guilty to murder (shooting a guy to death in a drug deal) and was given five years.

Why capital punishment is a bad idea: If you want to get rid of someone, you can simply frame them for murder, and watch them get capital punishment. Capital punishment doesn't give innocent victims time to prove their innocence. Unless we use our system of keeping capital criminals locked up for decades before we get around to executing them. But that system is too expensive. It would be better for them to spend those decades in a cheap spartan secure prison in the desert. And make it even cheaper by leaving them in that prison till they die, instead of going through all the formalities, legalities, technicalities, appeals, etc., of capital punishment, which costs many times more than prison.
