Parents at a California elementary school took their kids out of class after their annual trip to visit Santa Claus was canceled following a complaint from a Jewish mom.

About 30 students were taken to see St. Nick by their parents who were furious that the Sartorette Elementary School in San Jose canceled their trip.

Well it IS a public school. They were on shaky ground with that anyway.

Sounds like the principal should have called everyone in to try to work something out before canceling it though.

1. Inappropriate field trip for a public school.
2. Nothing significant to do with the curriculum.
3. Taking kids to see Santa is the job of the parents.
4. Taxpayers should not be paying for that kind of field trip.

I thought I was reading an article from The Onion or some other satirical magazine. Sadly, this is a sign of the times. What are we coming to where Santa is off limits in school? Kudos to the parents for taking the stand that they did and ensuring that their children had a solid learning experience.

Note: even the NYC school system considers Santa to be a "secular" figure in our modern times.

No, it's not inappropriate for kids, but it's inappropriate for tax dollars to be spent on it.

Says who? If the Supreme Court has upheld a stand alone nativity scene on public property as not being a violation of the 1st Amendment, a trip to see Santa certainly doesn't violate 1st Amendment principles. There's no legal wrong with such a decision to see Santa. If you think its inappropriate on other grounds, I'd be open to hearing why.

I agree.
I LOVE Santa and I think all this holiday crap going on in schools is entirely inappropriate anyway.
School is for school.
It's not for your religion.
It's not for your birthday party.
It's not for your gender crisis.
Just school.
