Rape is typical hazing? Assaulting young teen boys with a broomstick is pretty violent, imho.

I started a chapter of a fraternity and was heavily involved in both greek life and sports. Never heard of anyone even remotely doing this kind of stuff.

Not all, but it does happen, and honestly, often..
The concept of fraternity is to create a brotherhood and a kind of secret kinship where they will never rat themselves out when they go on to society after college, it is a kind of fraternal arrangement where one will do anything for the other knowing each other's shared past.. which is something extremely humiliating. For that reason, members of fraternities will go on to do favors in corrupt ways for one another later in life knowing their past shared depravity.
This also happens in sports. There is alot that goes out behind the scenes outside of the games, that nobody talks about.
