The level of naivety seems pretty high too.

Perhaps someone needs to explain to you the difference between a medical doctor and sociologist.

I never said that, but thanks for twisting my words just the same.

The States are certainly free to enact whatever road safety laws they want.

Point 2, if the recommendation is adopted, the federal government can certainly withhold highway aid from states that don't comply. Being a "federal republic" works both ways.
And the States should stop collecting the federal gasoline tax and withhold it.

The federal government has no business being involved with highways.

I'm not shocked...DUIs are easy money. Wait until booze has cigarette like taxes.

You didn't have to say it.

Most people that get into car wrecks that cause injuries are already what the cops call "deuces" .20 or higher.

Some people are impaired at a low BAC. We call them lightweights. A long time alcoholic can walk around with a .19 and you'd never know they were drinking.

Lowering it to .05 is stupid. You could blow a .05 after a large glass of wine or draft beer.

I think it's a goofy recommendation. It's unnecessary.

And this coming from someone who would lose two licenses if she blew more than a 0.04 in a non-work related situation. I abide by the law, but really don't see the need for general BAC to be lowered to 0.05.

The only thing I can gather from this thread is that many people (many posters here) must not only drive drunk but see absolutely nothing wrong with it.

They ALREADY lowered it from 0.10 to 0.08 about 15 years ago. At the rate they are going, pretty soon it will all citizens will be criminals.
That's asinine.

Probably not far from the truth.

But they'll make people so scared that it will kill restaurant and bar business, and lose a lot of tax revenue.
