You'd figure that people these days would be a little more cautious.
Yes, I'm sure many of you have had no problems selling stuff out of your own home via Craigslist or similar. Good for you. But no way I'm ever doing this.
While I'm not shedding any tears for the dead guy, I wonder how the law views this in that area since he went after the guy who was fleeing in a vehicle.
A homeowner who was tied up when he tried to show two potential buyers items he was selling on Craigslist, shot and killed one of the buyers when they tried to steal his car and flee.
What an outlandish comment. Most craigslist transactions go through smoothly. Needs to be banned? What is this, China?
Agreed, I have done many transactions on there without a single problem. However, my living situation is different then most so I doubt any criminal (unless they are beyond stupid) would try anything at my house. I live in a gated community that is gated and guarded. Plus they record and store on video the car license plate and keep the drivers license information on record. I also conceal carry so between all that I think any potential criminal wouldn't even bother showing up to my place because if they try something they aren't going to be leaving without getting caught.
When it comes to buying things however, I'm more cautious. I don't buy things off CL unless the person is willing to meet me in a police station parking lot.
When I down size to move and retire, I'm giving all my crap to Goodwill or Salvation Army, or throwing it out. Maybe I'll sell some of it on ebay. Yard sales are another way criminals scope out your home and come back later to rob you. I know someone this happened to.
I won't take the chance of trusting the general public in these situations. Most people will be honest, but it only takes the 1 percent to ********* over.

I have sold a few things on CR, but never at my home.
I will meet the person in a crowded area, like a shopping mall parking lot or Starbucks type of establishment. I am always armed just in case, but have never had a problem.
I guess it depends upon the type of things you sell as well.
I deal with audio gears and almost all I met are really nice and mostly professional sharing the same hobby.
Sometimes, we chat and listen for hours.
Even had a guy play nice songs on the guitar I was selling.
It all depends upon how/what you deal with and how you communicate to get a feel of the other persons.
Anything that deals with small and expensive like watches, jewelry is little dangerous as it's easy to grab and go.
Or big items like vehicles.
Or firearm deals that can go wrong pretty quick.
anyone who uses Craigslist must be out of their minds.
no chance in hell I would ever use that site!! I can't even count the # of murders that have resulted from people meeting/dealing on that predators magnet!
