Where was he outrage when women needed notes from their husbands to get birth control pills? It really wasn't all that long ago. I think that's the point she was making.
Pretty funny, but no worse than many other dumb laws on the books.
Mt Prospect IL had a law forbidding the firing of torpedoes in a park. And it's not on the ocean.
No different? How many people do you think the law in Mount Prospect impacts?
Most towns have ridiculous laws that date back fifty plus years. They're no longer relevant but they remain laws.
What she's doing just to be punitive, when there are so many more important issues to be dealt with, illustrates her incompetence.
Heh. When we were kids, we used to have to have a "note from our mother" to buy a pack of ciggies at the local grocery store (in those days there was no law that prohibited kids from buying ciggies). We wrote the note in grownup looking handwriting, and faked the signature. No problem.

LOL, I once tried to buy a comb on a Sunday in MA, and was told that the 'blue laws' prevented the store from being able to sell me the comb. So, I put enough money on the counter to cover the cost of the comb and told the clerk that I was taking it, it wasn't technically 'theft' since I was leaving the money for it, and he could decide what he wanted to do with the money. He looked very confused, it was funny.
There have been some very strange laws on the books, over the years, in some places.
She was trying to show how sexist the GOP and New Governor Matt Bevin's beliefs were that he was pushing through regarding women and abortion....that the government was trying to stick it's nose into where it doesn't belong - between a woman and her Doctor....and she was applying the same standards for men wanting Viagra, to show how sexist some of the bills and thought processes were.

Giving an impotent man the [possible] ability to "get and maintain an erection" is farthest thing from punitive.
When it comes to defending a women's right to be able to make decisions that will impact her life, for her entire life; a punitive action would approximate an equal disruption in the life of the man that impregnated her. 18 years to life.

so she wrote a bill knowing that is a bad idea just to spotlight how other potentially proposed laws might be bad also?

I remember going to the hairdresser back in the early 80s, I think it was. I had very long hair and wanted it cut short.
The hairdresser actually asked me if my husband knew what I was going to do!
Of course, it wasn't against the law; just pointing out the mindset of the not-too-distant past.

+1 It's scary that some people here thought this was a real bill . . . . the rep's just trying to make a point. Obviously.
