Do I need the free lunch, nope, does he, maybe, but my employer needs me a heck of a lot more than they need him, and the value of a $20 lunch is closer to $40 for me after taxes, so it helps the employer out by feeding me (not even mentioning the value of my extra time at the office (again salary employees who work well over 60 hours a week vs hourly employees who cry over anything more than 40).
so are you required to eat at the company cafeteria, or do you have the option of going out for lunch (assuming there are eateries close by to your office) to try out new types of food, run errands, or meet an acquaintance for lunch, and then just leave an hour later?
I haven't harassed you, or made any personal attacks against you, when you post in a public forum it's pretty much expected that people might disagree with you, but with that said you certainly have the option of putting me on ignore
You continue to inject "feelings" into a fact based discussion and speak in absolutes at that, it certainly is counter to any sort of real discussion which makes it blantant harassment.

God forbid you should ever encounter real harassment.

The only person who appears to be going after someone in this thread - is you.
Are you trying to manipulate the discussion by crying foul every time 2Sleepy comes up with a rebuttal?
You aren't giving the $12 /hr employees that option though. All you're doing is paying the minimum AND rubbing their faces in the fact that you don't value them enough to offer more money or small perks. Fine and dandy if you don't mind the turnover but IMO it makes more sense to keep trained employees happy with small concessions that make them feel appreciated, and don't kill morale by blatantly emphasizing the differences in status between one level and the next. Especially if those $12/hr employees ARE the face of your company as far as the majority of your customer base is concerned (YELP).
By the terminated complainer employee's own admission, she received full medical benefits, which is more than a "small perk".

More emotionally laden language vs. facts.
This thread probably should be moved to POC.
Not a reference to the original story as that's been debunked, it's about this posters opinion, not that difficult to figure out. Pennywise is pound foolish, and businesses who treat their employees poorly causing poor morale and high turnover because of niggling over stupid little things like restricting who has access to the free snacks is crazy.

The article states she was making about $8.15 / hr after taxes. However, after subtracting rent, food (even if it is ramen noodles), transportation costs, other costs... there's nothing left to cover copays. What's the point of providing health insurance if your employees can't even use it?
I understand that the Bay Area is expensive. However, she had choices:
1. Not to accept the job because the salary was too low.
2. Accept the job, and get a roommate.
3. Accept the job, and get a second job.
You cannot complain about the salary AFTER you've accepted a job. You just have to keep your mouth shut, do the work, and continue looking for a higher-paying job.
Most people have to "pay their dues" at the beginning of their careers with low-paying jobs, unless they busted their humps to acquire highly-sought-after skills while in college/grad school. But it seems like this woman just expected to land a good job and have a comfortable apartment right out of college--despite her lack of skills.
She is an entitled brat, which is confirmed by her expectation of others paying her bills for her on gofundme.
Just get a new job. Geez. Yeah, hell there are bad companies out there. Always has been. Quitting is the best answer. Don't give them the satisfaction of firing you. Find a better company, then quit the bad company, without a notice. Give them the middle finger. If you ever run into your former boss in a bar, kick his ass. Buy him a drink, and then leave your tab with him, while you leave the bar out the back door. Spread a rumor about him to all the other bar patrons. Tell them all that your boss is a child molester who got out of prison on a technicality. Air his tires out. Throw dog poop on his car. Order the same drink that he's drinking, then go into the bathroom and pee in your drink. When you come back, switch your drink with his and then ask him how his drink tastes. Tell the guys sitting next to you that your boss is a former boxer and wants to find out how tuff they are. Tell the bar made that your boss lost a nut to an infection that they haven't yet identified.
