There's no way this happened from someone walking up and doing it. Even the pic looks like the lock barely fits through the hole. Most likely the kid put it in himself, posted the picture online, and then some tabloid picked it up.

I agree and how the hell did someone do this without him knowing. If he didn't know and let someone get this close, he needs to get some better awareness for his surroundings!

I'd like to see him put a steering wheel lock through his ear instead.
