A Canadian couple allegedly gave their sick infant son maple syrup and other alternative remedies instead of medicine — letting him suffer for weeks before he died of meningitis.
David and Collet Stephan, from Alberta, are now on trial for the death of their 18-month-old boy, Ezekiel. The parents — who run Truehope Nutritional Support, a nutritional supplements company, and openly oppose vaccinations — are accused of avoiding professional medical help while experimenting with homemade quack cures.
We know what meningitis is and how to treat it. This couple is anti-vax and they lost their son, but they are still raving about being unfairly persecuted.
The Stephans appeared in court Monday in the city of Lethbridge to defend their actions, the CBC reported. The pair — who works for a natural supplement company, Truehope Nutritional Support — insisted that they loved their son and it was their right to treat him as they saw fit.
Yes, it is your right to treat your child. But that involves actually treating that child. Pseudoscientific quackery is not treatment - it is denial of treatment.
Your child had rights. One of those was the right to treatment. Now he's dead because he didn't get treatment. He was denied his rights.
Child dies

Apparently they feel the child was NOT unfairly persecuted. Lord have mercy on his soul ... but NOT for the parents' souls. I can only think of the seventh level of Hell as described in Dante's Paradise Lost. A fitting reward for them (and don't waste time talking about forgiveness ... they will get NONE from me).
What gets me the most about the anti vax crowd is that vaccinations are the aleopathic ( traditional medicine ) physicians' singular journey into homeopathic medicine ( activating the immune system ) and it was such a huge success that we actually wiped out the scourge that was small pox.
And now people want to bring back meningitis, varicella, the various measles and pox diseases that defined the dark ages to avoid a little thimerosol? Really?
Just a sickening, un-necessary loss of a sweet little child!
That poor little guy's body was so stiff by the time they loaded him into the car to meet an ambulance, they couldn't put him into his car seat. They had to lay him on a mattress.
They used Maple syrup as treatment? They even used horseradish! How did they choke that down his throat? WTF? Some people shouldn't breed.
Their Facebook posts are so disturbing! Whining about being sleep deprived, car problems, this situation costing them $2000 a day, etc. I didn't read everything, of course, but I did not not see anything about missing their sweet little boy, or remorse for their deadly mistake, or anything other than cluelessness and selfishness.
