She seemed to show frustration about a mass murder of 6 people in her Facebook post and she wanted to bring attention to black on black crime in her region, but she got the ax due to her honesty. Kind of an odd case. Wendy Bell has won 21 Emmy's, so she isn't exactly a horrible reporter.
Lots of support for her, but she probably shouldn't have mentioned this murder in the super sensitive times we are living in today. Fired after 18 years with WTAE for one Facebook post that wasn't meant to be racist in the least, just more frustration if anything. It is what it is.
Frankly, I read her comment and I don't get it. I didn't find here comments as being disparaging of black people, the black folks in the effected community or the likelihood that she was dead-on in her description of the likely suspect.
The only valid complaint is that her comments were purely conjectural and hardly based upon factual reporting. But then her comments were not made within the structure of a "news report" but then again it was on Facebook.
I think being reprimanded much less fired was a total overreach and it makes me wonder if her Facebook comments is just cover for other issues between her and the station's management cause I just don't get the firing.

If she was blonde, Fox News would have already offered her a job....

Sounded like she was just profiling since the news no longer reports race in crimes, even through most seem to be young men from one particular group...
Many of these towns back east ARE virtual war zones of crime caused by violent black people. There I said it, so fire me too. Oh wait, I own the company.
I agree, regardless, in this social media internet age of ours, there's no reason why anyone should be surprised if they face consequences of pointing out or venting out statements about other races, true or not.
Agree, she doesn't get enough "face time" being on TV?
Servers have been let go from restaurants for whining about a bad tip on FB.
I don't feel sorry for her, it never occurred to her before she posted this, maybe not a good idea job wise?
