This is a good example why states need to get the word out you can leave an unwanted infant at a hospital, or other safe space, no questions asked and no prosecution for child abandonment.
Really? Can you prove that? Can you site even one case where someone was sentenced to life in prison for killing an animal?
Waiting............
BTW, if the infant wasn't crying, why wouldn't she think it was dead? She was a terrified young girl, not a trained medical professional with a stethoscope hanging around her neck.
Again, she thought it was dead, so how can you assume something like this and judge not only her, but the people who raised her?
If it was up to me, she would get counseling and wouldn't spend even one day in jail.
Hey I was being dramatic and satirical. I would not send her to jail either - but what kind of counseling can change a person and make them more intelligent? Maybe this woman was just plain stupid?
Well what do you expect from a society that programs woman and men to think that a conceived child is just a blob.?
Yep. See below:

We don't say, "oh she's dead okay time to throw her in the trash and pretend none of this even happened" or try to dispose of her slyly in some other way. Come on.
She was trying to hide the baby and thus the pregnancy. She wanted to pretend it never happened. Unfortunately this is frequently the case in situations like this. And it wouldn't be the first time a young mother claimed the baby she hid for the whole pregnancy was "dead" at birth after she tried to dispose of it, and was proven wrong or otherwise proven to have lied.
Oh, not to mention, this all happened in a HOSPITAL. Medical professionals who can try to get a baby breathing with special equipment and everything are everywhere. I don't buy her BS story. She's cold-hearted.
SOME of society does not consider these babies are "people", they call them "cells" or "fetus" and do anything they can to dehumanize them. They then go out and teach young people that these babies are not actually babies.
And then we get stories like this, and everyone gets all upset about it...never once linking the cause and effect. It's just so shocking that this would happen...eye roll.
When you take away the value of something, of course people are going to treat that something as if it didn't matter. Fact is, she tried to KILL a baby. There's no excuse for that.

Abandoning babies was/is no rarity. Not everyone has the support, mental faculty, or means to support one. Had this woman known this was an option, she could have dropped off the child at a hospital.

The birth happened IN a hospital. She was already there. She could have carried the baby out of the bathroom, actually dead or not or thinking it was dead or not, handed him or her off to a staff member and walked out. She chose the trash instead, after she tried the toilet. She's scum.

Ignorance plus fear can make people do some really irrational things. Hence why there are so many hit and runs and "crimes of passion", pretty much temporary insanity. If you didn't realize you were pregnant, and it can happen with some people who have hormonal imbalances (irregular periods), then suddenly you give birth, its not too far out of the realm of possibility to panic.
