Yesterday, surgeons in Boston successfully performed America's first penis transplant. Thomas Manning, a 64 year old penile cancer survivor, is recovering well and is having no signs of rejection or infection. Surgeons are optimistic that he can regain full function in time and also hope that the operation can be used to help wounded combat veterans in the future. The first successful procedure was performed in Africa last year.

Youve heard of appendectomy surgery.
Is that the "AddaDicktome" surgery?

All jokes aside, hopefully it is successful. To be able to do this for other cancer patients and veterans could go a long ways to making them feel whole again.

The article starts with this line: "Things are looking up in life for a patient in Boston, thanks to a dead man’s penis."

It was a 15 hour procedure ... I certainly am glad that it went well with no signs of infection or rejection. Hopefully, he will keep his spirits up as the recovery continues.

All joking aside, he has a double victory to celebrate: beating cancer and the successful transplant. I'm sure it was especially traumatic for him to lose his penis. Some women talk about feeling like "less of a woman" when they have a mastectomy due to breast cancer; it's likely he had similar feelings and may have had a lot of embarrassment about it also.

Hopefully he's happy with the one he ended up with.

He triumphed over tremendous setbacks just as you mentioned with women and mastectomies. He deserves nothing but the best.

I have a difficult time joking about this. Of all places on the body to suffer trauma or injury, that is the absolute ultimately total worst place for a male. Let's not forget he had cancer. That man deserves a medal.

So if it doesn't work, will they still call it erectile dysfunction?
