The Zumwalt class was originally intended to consist of 32 ships. After prices ballooned - the unit cost is $3,000,000,000+ (that excludes R&D, which for the class now tops $10,000,000,000) - Congress reduced the order to 3 ships.
This ship is a far cry from the Vietnam era destroyer for which was "home" tor me. I cannot imagine the training each crewmember was required to take, just to understand its workings and their responsibilities to make it the fighting vessel she will become.
