This is one of the reasons my best friend is no longer a vet. There were numerous others, but having to put down healthy animals was one of them.

There will always be more to take their place. Sounds like they are creating a health hazard in Taiwan. Public safety and health should take complete precedence over stray dogs and cats.

This article is quite enlightening on the condition of dogs in Taiwan it was published in 2003 but I doubt conditions have changed for the better based on the answers the respondents provided for the questionnaire. The spay and neuter rates are also woefully low for Taiwan in addition to a huge national population of free roaming dogs.

I wanted to be a vet until I got older and really thought about. There's no way I could do what she did

And clearly she was depressed and not thinking clearly or she would have left her job. And before it got that far she was probably torn between "giving up" or to keep fighting and trying to help the ones she could. She took an oath and was trying to stay true to that.

If you think she's had to kill a lot of dogs / cats, Think about the poor McDonald's workers over there.
