You obviously haven't read anything about this incident beyond the comments on this page. The above commentator is correct. The gorilla grabbed the baby and began throwing him around like a rag doll.
Incorrect. He was simply dragging him along by one arm. probably trying to take him away from the mote. Probably was going to hand him off to a female. I suspect he meant no harm to the kid. Gorillas probably don't understand how frail human children are.

The trained zoo personnel felt that the only way to get the kid out safe was to shoot the gorilla. So that's it case closed. Anybody that wants to say otherwise can go hold hands with a gorilla personally and film it so we can see how it works out. Human >gorilla. That's it.

Now if they want to sue the parents (and win) for loss of an exhibit then I'm all for it but we all know that is unlikely.

The Cincinnati zoo website is down, but was he a breeding male or a bachelor. There are about 100 excess gorilla makes just in the US, so it may not be as big a tragedy as if it was a female, depending on his genes.

Please! How about paying attention and holding onto to your kids in unfamiliar and possibly dangerous environments? To use your logic, "our 3 year old fell off the side of the cruise ship, they're so quick you know", instead of holding onto your child.

Parents(use that word loosely) probably were busy texting.

They should be billed for the cost of the employees having to get involved in this, and the replacement of the gorilla.

Yes. The EXPERTS decided to put down the gorilla...LOL at the people saying the gorilla was probably going to pass it to the female, it was just giving the kid a hug.

Maybe we should have just let the gorilla keep the child & raise it as its own.

It's obvious they weren't paying enough attention and their idiocy caused an endangered animal to get shot. I hope their names become released so people can lambast them. I bet they'll pay better attention going forward.

My husband and I were just talking about this. I'm sad that they had to shoot the gorilla. Couldn't they have just used a tranquiliser of some sort?

Though he said that it's "inexcusable on the part of the 3 year old", who "should've had the common sense not to go in a gorilla cage", just because HE was such a good kid back then. He says if that was our kid, he'd give the gorilla "a second or two" to teach the kid a lesson before jumping in.

...I think I'll need to chaperone both him and our future kid on zoo trips lol.

Very sad ,but the outcome could have been both dead. It reminded me of my medical chest physiciann and myself asked to treat Sampson at the Milwaukee Zoo who had a severe pneumonia. . I cannot recall if labs determined whether it was viral or bacteria. Unfortunately he died before the staff, my doc and myself ( RT) could save him. Today I would have sedated Sampson and begun an IV of full strenght Silver Sol 10 ppm( not colloidal broad spectrum for viral and or bacteria)l. We considered ultrasonic nebulizers 4-5 running continuously ( to loosen secretions) ,but never got to that point. Thank goodness the child wasn't harmed.in the thread scenario.
