I know it's old fashioned, but it looks like those blood tests before marriage (and relations) come in handy.

Looks like he's playing chicken with her, the way he pulls a sharp U-turn to make sure he's in the perfect position to get hit. Sad situation.

I believe it can take up to 6 months for it to show up on a test.

You should be tested for STDs, including HIV, before every new partner and demand that your partner do the same. You should also be retested at least 6 months after beginning a new sexual relationship because some STDs take longer to show up.

If the boyfriend is being actively and effectively treated, the transmission rate is exceptionally low - virtually nil. That said, given the appearance that drugs may be involved and his sketchy behavior, I wouldn't doubt that he's sloppy in taking his meds.
