They just need to find a single place, build everything needed, and use it every four years.

The engine behind Brazil's economy is commodities like oil, sugar and coffee. Prices for all of them have plummeted over the last two years, hurting Brazil badly. The Petrobras corruption scandal also damaged public confidence in the economy and political system.

Lots of misconceptions in the USA about Brazil. It's economy is largely driven by a private economy of large and small businesses. You can argue regulations and taxes are too high but this is a far cry from socialism. Freedom of the press and democratic elections are the norm there. Corruption is unacceptable and a real issue. Hopefully, the Petrobras scandal will lead to reforms and greater public scrutiny.

It ain't liberals who extolled the virtues of Brazil and cheered when Chicago lost the bid for the 2016 Olympics (since President Obama supported the U.S. bid, they reflexively opposed it).

Chicago loses Olympics bid; conservatives rejoice

But the historical revisionism doesn't surprise me in the least.

Without being propped up in one way or another (directly, lopsided trade agreements, etc.) Brazil is just another "BRIC" in the third-world wall.

I remember when the company I worked for was trying to open a new office in Brazil. For months we couldn't get a T-1 line or even phone lines delaying the opening of the office.
This all changed when literally a briefcase full of cash was delivered to appropriate people, we had a line the next week.

Riding the roller coaster of commodities' prices has never been smart economy. Brazil should know that since it already happened in the past, when they depended on coffee. But economies depending n commodities exports, be it soy, gold, oil, guano, coffee, will never learn

Kind of the way people solicit our Politicians with "Contributions".

Wonder how many bags of cash the Clinton Foundation has accepted? It's probably in those deleted emails.

Sadly it's too late to fix those items and they know it, they've known it for months...

There were plenty of liberals who didn't want to see Chicago get it.
